16 (Poe)

Last night, the proxies pulled yet another little prank on the community who opposes them. This time, they dragged an innocent name through the muck that they revel in. It shouldn't surprise me. These are killers. These are evil people, willing to sell others out for their own lives. It shouldn't surprise me that they'd use Annabel's legacy to try and strike at the runners who knew her.

My first reaction was to comment. I was angry, confused, lashing out. I still am all those things, but I've actually collected my thoughts. Everything I said last night? I stand by it. Annabel is much too purehearted to become one of them.

You could hear it her voice every time you spoke to her. It was in her smile that shined so brightly each day you spent beside her. Annabel was a beacon of light to anyone who knew her. She gave me hope. She made me look forward to another day. For them to use her like this is just another act of violence, just another assault on the innocent.

The Messenger claims that this must be a different Annabel. Bullshit. How many Annabel Lees are out there in this world? How many are involved in this twisted tale? How many were ensnared by a sick attempt at humor? It's too perfect. I don't know exactly what game these proxies are playing at by claiming Annabel to be one of their own, but it's what they're doing.

It's the only thing that makes sense.

After all, I got another phone call from Pete's old cell number this morning. I heard that heavy breathing. I heard the whispering voice. "In a kingdom by the sea, a maiden there lived whom you may know, by the name of Annabel Lee."

They're using her as a weapon. They're using the purest person I've ever met as a tool to further their villainous agenda. It's sick.

Dia claimed that maybe this is a good thing. Either I'm right and Annabel is still out there, in which case I should let this go, or I'm wrong and this means she can still be saved. It's not that simple. It's never that simple. If I'm right, I've already said what this means and how cruel this is to myself and the others who knew Annabel.

If I'm wrong I'm not wrong.

There's no way I'm wrong.

  1. Would you rather have her suffering as a victim they kept locked up in those horrific cages of theirs? They wouldn't have just let her go. It is completely possible to save a Proxy, no matter how much horror they go through.

The question is... are you willing to go through that self-torture? Are you capable of doing what needs to be done in order to get her back, to stop that suffering she must be going through? I don't know. I am not trying to be cruel, Donovan. I merely want you to know.. you have a choice, whether you acknowledge it or not.

  2. OH FUCK YOU

If that man in her story is you...

    then fuck you.

YOU LEFT HER TO DIE AND SHE TRUSTED YOU.

What fucking other choice did she have? What FUCKING OTHER CHOICE IS THERE?

DIE FOR SOME UPPITY FUCKHEAD WHO LEFT HER IN THE DUST?

she was scared, and guess what you pretentious waste of human flesh?

    SHE STILL IS.

If you had been the one trapped? She would have come back for you.

AND YOU DARE ACCUSE HER OF LYING YOU SACK OF FILTH?

SHE ALIVE AND SHES DOING WHAT SHE HAS TO TO STAY ALIVE BECAUSE UNLIKE YOU SHE DOESN'T USE TRAVELING COMPANIONS AS BODY SHIELDS.

  3. I'm not playing your game, proxy. My name is Donovan. The runner who supposedly abandoned Annabel was Arnold, one of the biggest bastards I have ever met. He was all survival of the fittest all the time. He'd sell you out for a meal. He'd trade your life for one more week.

Don't you dare compare me to him. I've done everything I could to help everyone I've met. I did everything I could to get to Annabel on the day your people drove us apart.

You were the closest proxy I've ever come to respecting. Now? Now you're just another part of their army, trying to break me through my past.

  4. ... Donovan. You fucking idiot.
If this is your Annabel, and she could be, because honestly people do a lot of things when they're too scared to die, then you need to get off of your fucking high horse right now.

Whatever else she may be, my Cam adored her. She's still... Proxies are still people, asshole. If you want to save your Annabel, maybe you should get in touch and take your chance instead of blundering about raging and looking like a douchebag.

  5. You are perfectly right, Donovan. These things are monsters. You can't trust them. How dare they defile this girl's names with another of their tricks? It's a disgusting act. Anger and hatred is the only proper response to these things.
You can never forgive something like this.

  6. ...Okay, really. Doesn't the fact that Poe told that story, mentioned another person you knew - without any prompting from you - make it even more plausible that she and Annabel the same person? What's the likelihood of a proxy knowing about Arnold without you posting about him (at least, if your rationale relies their using what you post against you, which it seems to.)?

Believing that everyone is out to get you is a textbook sign of paranoia. Think, dude. Calm down, think it out, stack up evidence for either scenario and see what you get. Objectivity is pretty important in situations like these.

  7. My great grandmother's name was Annabel Lee... Considering it's a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, it's more common that you might at first think. On the one hand, it could just be another assumed name. On the other, it could be why she's called Poe now.

I gotta agree with Elaine here. Actions speak louder than words.

  8. Alright, now that this has successfully calmed down... Donovan, sweetheart.. you have to remember that if that is Annabel, she's the same girl. She used to be a Runner, and by all honesty, can be again. She chose the other side rather than die because she was scared. I look forward to the day that she isn't on His side. Because, honestly... she doesn't act like a Proxy. And she sure as hell doesn't act happy.
